Death and Other Hardships

I've discovered a philosopher that I like: Nick Bostrom. A bunch of his ideas coincidentally appeared in science-fiction form in a play I wrote while a playright apprentice for the Theater Artists' Westport of Westport (a sort of off-Broadway Actors' Studio). I figured I should publish the play, just in case it might contain something Nick hasn't yet done better:

My kids pick their TV shows. They even fast-forward to their favorite parts. But suppose they invested 10% of their attention in messages that irritated them, that challenged them to grow or granted them humility.

By describing himself as a gadfly, Socrates claimed to provide that kind of irritation. Is it part of what every parent should provide? Please send me irritating ideas to post on this blog for any who appreciate challenge (and don't expect me to be quite so irritating the other 90% of the time).
